Support Growing For Benefit Justice Summit On 9th March
Support for the Benefit Justice Summit on Saturday 9th March to coordinate resistance to the vicious ConDem benefits cuts is gaining momentum.
The numbers of people signing up to support the Facebook campaign against the hated bedroom tax doubled to more than 11,ooo.
Hands Off Our Homes in Leeds have been organising local meetings across the city where impressive numbers of tenants have resolved to fight evictions.
More than 160 residents and workers expressed their rage at benefit cuts that are forcing more than 750 families out of their homes at a meeting in Camden. There have been large protests in Portsmouth and Croydon against benefit cuts with more to come in other towns.
More local campaigns have pledged support for the statement launching the summit initiated by Defend Council Housing, Disabled People Against Cuts, Right To Work, Unite and PCS.
Recent backers for the Summit include Medway Against the Cuts and Barnet Alliance For Public Services.
These campaigns are starting to have an impact. Despite a concerted media campaign to justify the Tories vicious benefit cuts, - a ComRes poll for ITV News showed more support for increased spending rather than cuts to welfare ( 43% to 27%).
