'Vulnerable and fragile' Mark Wood was left with just £40 a week to live on after being declared fit for work by Atos and having benefits slashed
On Thursday, MPs finally debated the War on Welfare petition in
Parliament – calling for an impact assessment of how welfare changes are
affecting sick and disabled people.
For three hours, Hansard was forced to record the victims of welfare reform.
But as a series of MPs told horror story after horror story experienced by their constituents, one MP was notable by his absence.
The Prime Minister.
On the same day as the petition was being debated at the Commons, Oxford Crown Court heard that “vulnerable and fragile” Mark Wood starved to death four months after most of his benefits were stopped.
After Atos had assessed the 44-year-old was fit for work, he had been left with just £40 a week to survive on.
Mark was from Bampton in Oxfordshire. He was David Cameron’s constituent.
