Questions were mounting tonight over the alleged cover-up of a Downing Street aide’s child porn arrest, with David Cameron blasted for a “lack of transparency”.
Patrick Rock – a close friend of the Prime Minister – secretly quit his role three weeks ago but was not quizzed by police until the next day.
Detectives from the National Crime Agency searched the No10 offices and the IT system but news of the investigation did not emerge until Monday.
Today MPs questioned why Mr Rock, 62, was “alerted” to possible problems before his arrest.
Labour’s John Mann said: “The whole thing is very odd. The sequence of events is mystifying. Clearly there are many questions to be answered.”
He added: “Yet again we are seeing a lack of transparency from No10. It is highly inappropriate that a major figure could cease to be responsible for these policy areas without MPs and the public being made aware.
“We need to be sure there are no policy implications.”
