Marian Wheatland, 85, has heart and lung disease and needed treatment for
pneumonia at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire
A grandmother waited
for more than four hours in an ambulance outside a hospital.
Wheelchair-bound Marian Wheatland, 85, has heart and lung disease and needed treatment for pneumonia at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire.
But she was in one of eight ambulances queuing for beds last month.
Husband John, 84, said: “It was unbelievable.
“My wife was just lying there outside in an ambulance instead of being examined by doctors in a bed. The paramedics were fantastic - it was only their hard work which kept her alive.
“She arrived there just after 3pm but it was four and a quarter hours before she was allowed in.
“And then it was gone midnight by the time she was settled for the doctor to examine her. She was literally fighting for breath to live.”
