Charity bosses claim Cameron has misled disabled people about the bedroom tax

The heads of 18 groups say his claims that the disabled are exempt from the hated tax are wrong and have given them false hope

Charity bosses say PM David Cameron has repeatedly misled disabled people about the Bedroom Tax.

The heads of 18 groups say his claims that the disabled are exempt from the hated tax are wrong and have given them false hope.

“Far from being exempt, day after day we are seeing the evidence that disabled people and their families are among the hardest hit,” says a letter signed by Carers UK, RNIB, Mencap, and others.

In fact only disabled children who cannot share a room and people who need an extra room for an overnight carer are exempt.

More than 400,000 disabled have been hit by the tax , which began in April and docks an average £14 a week housing benefit from anyone with a spare room.
