Don't be fooled by the Coalition’s energy price cut con.

Bills will still soar, hundreds of thousands of households will still be plunged into poverty and people will still die because they’re petrified of turning on the heating.

Spooked ministers are hoping the gesture, cooked-up with suppliers, will buy it some time.

For they know round the corner are rocketing costs that threaten another wave of price hikes next year.

They include the little talked about “carbon price floor” which is set to have a big impact on bills.

The tax slapped on polluting power stations adds £13 to the average energy bill, and that’s set to jump next April.

Sources say suppliers are pressing ministers to take action.

But the Government won’t be quick to act as it raked in a massive £1billion from the tax this year. That’s set to leap by £500million next year and £2billion in 2015 - in other words a lucrative money spinner.

With suppliers blaming the Government for other hidden costs, they’ve got it over a barrel.

Delaying green schemes will boost their profits but prevent help getting to those who need it fast.

Yet King of the U-turn David Cameron is too busy running scared of big business, and Labour’s quick
thinking, to bother about them.
