Tory and Lib Dem MPs exempt themselves from changes to state pension age

In the coalition agreement, the Tories and Liberal Democrats said changes to the retirement age for women wouldn’t take place until at least 2020:

We will phase out the default retirement age and hold a review to set the date at which the state pension age starts to rise to 66, although it will not be sooner than 2016 for men and 2020 for women.”

The coalition however has broken the agreement. They have announced that changes to the State Pension Age would be brought in much sooner than they promised - with less than two years’ notice in some cases. This leaves tens of thousands of women approaching retirement age without a pension they had planned for – sometimes for as long as 6 years.
