Con-Dem cuts set to cost 1,000,000 public sector jobs

Revealed: Con-Dem cuts set to cost 1,000,000 public sector jobs before next General election in 2015

EXPERTS say that more jobs are set to go and the worst is still to come, following a damning study which showed 49,000 jobs in Scotland have been lost.

MORE than a million jobs will have been wiped out by the time the Con-Dem Government are finished taking their wrecking ball to the public sector.

A study for the GMB union shows 631,000 public sector jobs – 49,000 of them in Scotland – have been lost since the Coalition came to power in 2010.

And the union predict that fresh cuts being eyed by Tory Chancellor George Osborne will take that figure over a million before voters can turf him out in May 2015.

As well as the job losses, the pay of public sector workers has been held down in the past few years, forcing them to accept a wage cut.

GMB national officer Brian Strutton said: “These statistics show the devastating effect of this Government’s austerity cuts on total public sector employment.

“Some parts of the country that are most dependent on the public sector to support their local economies have been hardest hit.

“The tragedy is that the worse is yet to come.
