A young mum hanged herself in her bedroom after losing custody of her two-year-old daughter and being evicted from her home.

An inquest into the death of Brooke Symes, from Tilgate, was held at a coroner’s court in Horsham yesterday(Tuesday June 18).

Brooke was 21 when she died in her home in Rillside on January 20 2013.

Coroner’s officer Jemma Gaule read a statement from Brooke’s mother Steph Pullen, of Burrell Court, Bewbush, explaining how Brooke’s mental health deteriorated in the two years before her death.

It explained she became depressed after her daughter’s father was given full custody and she was served an eviction notice in 2012 which told her she must leave her home by February 2013.

Police officers attended her home on January 20 2013 and forced entry to her bedroom where she was found.

She left a suicide note.

She was taken to East Surrey hospital where Dr Mohammed Ameen confirmed her death was caused by loss of oxygen supply due to hanging.

Assistant deputy coroner for West Sussex Dr Karen Henderson said: “It is clear beyond reasonable doubt Brooke intended to take her own life.”
